I was walking home from visiting someone the other day and heard something that was like music to my ears! It was music actually… someone practising the drums! Why music to my ears? Well, it took me back a few years when my son, now a professional musician, was practising on his drums! I often wondered what passers-by, and the neighbours, thought as they heard the steady thud of the bass drum and clash of cymbals. I thought it was wonderful to hear someone using their gifts and reminded me of a hymn we have learnt in church recently…
Creation sings the Father’s song; He calls the sun to wake the dawn And run the course of day, Till evening comes in crimson rays. His fingerprints in flakes of snow, His breath upon this spinning globe, He charts the eagle’s flight, Commands the new born baby’s cry.
Hallelujah! Let all creation stand and sing: “Hallelujah!” Fill the earth with songs of worship, Tell the wonders of creation’s King.
We are all part of God’s creation and when we use our voices, hearts, minds and bodies to celebrate life we are joining in the Father’s song !
So when you are sitting in an airport lounge or, looking out of the window of a plane, train or car, feeling the sand between your toes, listening to bird song on a cliff top, knitting, gardening, cooking, cleaning or sitting quietly in your garden, know that all of creation is shouting Halleluiah with you!!
